CNC spindle repair for Australia

We are an independent spindle repair workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. All work is done there. There is no Australian branch, no warehouse and no staff in the country, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a presence we do not have. A spindle from Australia comes to us as crated air or sea freight.

The market

Mining equipment, defence and general engineering

Australian enquiries tend to come from maintenance-led industries. Shops in Western Australia and Queensland machine and repair mining and materials handling equipment, defence and shipbuilding work sits around Adelaide and Perth, and general engineering serves agriculture, rail and food plant across the eastern states. The spindles are a mix of machining centre units from Okuma, Mazak, Doosan and Haas machines, plus large boring mill, lathe and grinding spindles from older equipment kept running long past its original service life. Most come in with bearing damage, crash damage, or vibration that has been ignored.

We are independent and not tied to any builder. These are the makes whose spindles come across the bench most often.

Getting the spindle here

A long leg, and when it is worth paying for

Air freight takes days and costs accordingly; sea freight is cheaper and measured in weeks. Customs formalities apply at both ends, your forwarder deals with them, and a temporary export with re-import after repair is usually the right procedure. Be blunt about the arithmetic: for a common spindle that can be exchanged locally, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit it often does. On-site work in Australia is realistic only by prior technical arrangement, planned weeks ahead.

Questions

Australia spindle repair — frequently asked

Repair itself is typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Freight and clearance each way are added to that and belong to your forwarder. Sea freight in particular is measured in weeks.

Only by prior technical arrangement, and it needs planning. There is no local team, no depot of parts on the continent and no call-out arrangement. When a visit does make sense, it is scheduled in advance so that the right bearings, seals, tooling and measuring instruments travel with the technician. Most jobs are still better done on the bench here.

Ask that question before booking freight. If an exchange spindle is available in Australia at a fair price, that is usually the sensible route. Shipping to Germany earns its keep on rare, high-value, discontinued or already modified units, where a rebuild is the only realistic way of keeping the machine working. Send the machine and spindle details and we will give a view.

Send us the spindle details

Tell us the machine model, the spindle type and what the machine is doing wrong. We come back with an initial assessment and a written quote before any work begins.
