Mazak Spindle Repair and Rebuild
We rebuild Mazak spindles: Integrex milling heads, turning main spindles and sub-spindles, driven tool units and high-speed machining centre spindles. The work is done in our own workshop in Sankt Augustin, Germany, as an independent business working on machines of every brand. Most customers ship the spindle to us; on-site work abroad is possible only by prior technical arrangement.
Scope
Mazak spindle systems we work on
On a Mazak multi-tasking machine the milling spindle is also part of an axis. The head indexes, clamps and then cuts, so wear in the clamping and indexing hardware shows up as what looks like a spindle fault. We separate the two during teardown. The turning spindles from the same machines are a different problem again, with chuck and drawtube loads sitting on the front bearing set.
Integrex milling spindles
The B-axis head carries an HSK or Capto interface and has to hold position while cutting. Units reaching us usually come from Integrex e and i series machines. We rebuild the bearing set, check the clamp and index hardware, and balance the rotor before the head goes back together.
Turning main and sub-spindles
Chuck weight, bar loads and hard braking all land on the front bearing set. Units usually come from Quick Turn and Integrex lathes. Spindle nose runout, bearing preload and the drawtube bore are measured, and the C-axis drive and brake are checked while the unit is apart.
Driven tool and turret spindles
Small live tool holders and turret drive spindles do a lot of interrupted work in a wet environment, and the seals usually fail before the bearings do. We renew bearings and seals, check the coupling teeth and the tool interface, and set backlash where the design allows it.
High-speed machining centre spindles
Units reaching us usually come from Variaxis, VCN and HCN machines, most with a built-in motor and an HSK interface. Faults tend to show first as a change in noise at one speed. Rebuild covers bearings, seal and air purge, taper condition and balancing of the rotating assembly.
The exact configuration depends on the machine model and the year of manufacture. Two machines with the same model designation can carry different spindle units, so we confirm the build from your nameplate photograph before quoting.
Symptoms
Faults we see most often on Mazak spindles
Noise and rising vibration
On Integrex heads a change in noise often follows a long spell of heavy interrupted cutting. Bearings, rotor balance and the clamping hardware are all checked, since any of the three can be the source.
Overheating and thermal drift
Turning spindles run hot when the preload is wrong or the coolant circuit is furred up. We measure temperature rise on the test stand after rebuild and record it with the report.
Runout at the taper
Common after a crash on a B-axis head, where the tool takes the hit at an angle. The taper is reground and runout corrected; a bent shaft is reported before further money is spent.
Tool clamping problems
Weak drawbars show up as tool pull-out on heavy milling cycles in turn-mill work. Clamping force is measured, the spring stack and gripper renewed, and the unclamp stroke reset to the drawing figure.
Encoder and orientation faults
Orientation trouble on Mazak heads is often mechanical: a slipping sensor ring, a damaged cable or contamination on the encoder disc. We check the mechanical side and report what the drive cannot see.
Coolant or grease ingress
Through-spindle coolant at pressure finds any tired seal, and turn-mill machines run wet all day. Wet bearings and, on built-in units, wet windings are found early because insulation is measured at intake.
Process
What a repair looks like
The spindle is logged in and inspected on arrival, then dismantled completely. We measure shaft and housing geometry, check the bearing seats, inspect windings and encoder, and photograph what we find. You receive a written quotation with the scope of work before anything is repaired. After the work is done the unit is dynamically balanced, run-in tested and shipped with a test report containing the measured values.

On a Mazak spindle they are usually combined into one rebuild rather than ordered separately.

Removal should be carried out by qualified personnel following the machine documentation. If that is not possible on site, ask us about removal and refitting as part of an on-site visit.
Shipping and on-site service
Our workshop is in Germany and we have no branch, warehouse or permanent staff in other countries. Customers outside Germany send the spindle to us by freight forwarder; we inspect, repair, test and return it. On-site work — removal, installation, alignment and commissioning — is possible internationally, but only after the job has been agreed technically in advance, so that the right parts and instruments travel with the technician.

Mazak spindle repair — frequently asked
Yes. Spindles come to us directly from maintenance departments and from repair shops, with nobody in between, and we are not tied to any single parts catalogue. We are an independent business and hold no Mazak authorisation of any kind, which we would rather state plainly than leave you to assume otherwise.
Units reaching us usually come from Integrex multi-tasking machines, Quick Turn lathes and Variaxis, VCN and HCN machining centres, with the occasional older Nexus machine. That is what we happen to see, not a compatibility list. Send the spindle number and the machine serial and we will tell you what we can sensibly do.
It is worth thinking about before the head comes out. If position drifts only under load and the noise is normal, the clamp or the index hardware is the more likely cause. If the noise changes with speed rather than with load, the bearings are. Once the unit is on the bench, teardown settles it either way.
Typically five to ten working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. It is an estimate rather than a committed date, and any binding date has to be confirmed in writing. Integrex heads sit at the longer end, because the clamping and index hardware has to be checked as well.
You receive a written quotation before any repair work begins. Before that the spindle is stripped and measured, and that assessment is charged according to the size and type of unit.
