Spindle repair for Estonian machine shops

Our workshop sits in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn, and it is the only place we repair spindles. There is no branch in Estonia and no staff there. A spindle from Tallinn or Tartu reaches us on a road trailer through Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, a well-served and reasonably cheap lane.

Getting the spindle here

Down the Via Baltica to the Rhineland

Estonia is in the EU, so there is no customs paperwork and the spindle moves as internal freight. Groupage trailers run down the Via Baltica through Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to the Rhineland, and rates are low for the distance. Sea freight through Hamburg is an alternative for heavy units. Transit time belongs to your forwarder and is additional to the days the spindle spends in the workshop.

The market

Subcontract metalwork for Nordic OEMs

Estonian machining is largely subcontract work for Nordic and German OEMs: sheet metal and welded assemblies, machined parts for lifting and marine equipment, electronics enclosures and precision components for measurement and telecoms products. Volumes are moderate and mixed, which keeps a lot of general-purpose machinery in service. The spindles we see are mostly milling spindles from vertical machining centres and turning spindles from mid-size lathes, plus high-speed units from routing and aluminium work. Second-hand machines bought from Finland and Sweden are common, and their spindles arrive with a long history.

Questions

Estonia spindle repair — frequently asked

Photographs of the spindle nameplate and of the machine's nameplate, the fault as you observed it, any alarm codes, and whether there was a crash. If you have vibration or run-out readings, send those too. Then crate the spindle properly, drain the coolant and protect the taper and the shaft end.

Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. It is an estimate rather than a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Road transit from Estonia takes a few days each way and is your forwarder's to schedule.

Yes. Stripping, cleaning and measuring a spindle is real work and it is invoiced whether or not the repair goes ahead. What you get from it is a written quotation with the findings behind it, so you can decide with facts rather than guesses. Nothing further happens until you accept that quotation.

Tell us the machine model, the spindle type and what the machine is doing wrong. We come back with an initial assessment and a written quote before any work begins.
