CNC spindle repair for Latvia
We are an independent spindle workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn. Paul Kloss runs it, and every repair is done there, on those benches. We have no branch and no staff in Latvia. A spindle from Riga or Liepaja normally travels as palletised road freight through Lithuania and Poland, booked by a forwarder you appoint.
The market
What Latvian workshops send us
Latvian metalworking is largely subcontract: sheet and plate fabrication, welded structures, and machining for Scandinavian and German customers. Alongside that sits a long tradition of rail and heavy machinery repair, particularly around Daugavpils and Riga. The spindles that reach us reflect that mix. Mostly they are belt-driven and direct-drive milling spindles out of mid-range vertical machining centres, lathe headstocks from older turning machines, and the occasional grinding spindle from a rebuilt bed. The usual findings are bearing wear, coolant ingress past a tired seal, and taper damage after a crash.

Getting the spindle here
The road leg from Latvia
Latvia is inside the EU customs union, so there are no customs formalities and nothing beyond ordinary transport paperwork. Groupage road freight from Riga to the Rhineland takes a few days in each direction. That time sits on top of any workshop estimate and belongs to your forwarder, not to us. Send the spindle upright on a pallet with the shaft supported and the taper protected. On-site work in Latvia is possible only by prior technical arrangement, so the right instruments and parts travel with the technician.
Questions
Latvia spindle repair — frequently asked
Typically five to ten working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date, and a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Road transit from Latvia and back is on top of that and is your forwarder's business rather than ours.
Not in every case. For a common spindle that can be exchanged locally, or bought quickly as a stock item, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit it often does. Send the nameplate data and a description of the fault and we will tell you which case you are in.
The nameplate data, the machine make and model, and a short account of the fault: noise, vibration, temperature, error codes, and whether there was a crash. Photographs of the taper and the connectors help. After teardown and inspection we issue a written quotation, and no repair work starts before you have accepted it.
Send us the spindle details
Tell us the machine model, the spindle type and what the machine is doing wrong. We come back with an initial assessment and a written quote before any work begins.
