Spindle rebuilds for Finnish machine shops
The workshop is in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn, and every spindle we repair is repaired there. Nothing of ours sits in Finland. A spindle from Tampere or Vaasa normally travels by ferry and road through the Baltic states or via Sweden and Denmark, or by air if the machine is holding up production.
The market
Forestry machines, marine engines, heavy steel
Finnish manufacturing runs to large, robust products: forestry and harvesting machinery, marine engines and propulsion, lifting and mining equipment, and the heavy fabrication that goes with them. Machine shops there hog large steel and cast parts, so the spindles we see are mostly big milling and boring spindles from horizontal centres and floor borers, with turning spindles from long-bed lathes behind them. Bearing wear from sustained heavy cuts, and drawbar and taper damage after a crash, account for most of what arrives.

Getting the spindle here
Ferry, road and the northern distances
Finland is in the EU, so no customs formalities arise and the spindle travels as internal freight. The realistic routes are a ferry from Helsinki or Turku plus road, or air freight when the line is stopped. From Lapland and the far north the freight leg gets long and expensive, and for a common spindle that a Finnish supplier can exchange locally it rarely pays for itself; for a rare or discontinued unit it usually still does.

Questions
Finland spindle repair — frequently asked
The spindle comes out and travels; the machine stays where it is. Removal and refitting are your side of the job, or your service company's. If removal is the problem, on-site help is possible by prior technical arrangement, so the right pullers, parts and measuring gear travel with the technician.
Reckon on 5 to 10 working days in the workshop from the day it arrives, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Add the ferry and road transit at both ends.
Not new, and we will not describe it that way. A rebuilt spindle is a used assembly with new bearings, new seals and corrected geometry, run in and measured on our balancing and test equipment. We report the figures we measure. What we do not do is promise a service life or claim factory condition.
