CNC spindle repair for Qatar
We are an independent spindle repair workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. Paul Kloss runs it and all work happens in that one building. There is nothing of ours in Qatar. A spindle from Doha travels as air cargo to Frankfurt and then by road for the final hour or two.
Getting the spindle here
Doha to Sankt Augustin
Qatar is outside the EU, so customs formalities apply leaving and returning. Your forwarder handles the clearance, and a temporary export with re-import after repair is usually the right procedure to set up before the crate moves. Direct air cargo from Doha to Frankfurt keeps the flying time short, but clearance at both ends is the forwarder's business and adds to the total, on top of the days spent in our workshop. On-site work needs prior technical arrangement.
The market
What Qatari maintenance teams run
Qatari machining is dominated by plant maintenance: LNG trains and gas processing at Ras Laffan, petrochemicals and port industry at Mesaieed, and aviation engineering around Doha. The workshops attached to those sites do turning, milling and repair of pump, valve and compressor parts rather than volume production. What we see from Qatar tends to be motor spindles from machining centres and boring spindles from larger beds, brought in after a crash or after bearings have run hot in dusty, humid conditions.

Questions
Qatar spindle repair — frequently asked
Not always. For a common spindle that can be exchanged locally or in the wider Gulf, freight and clearance both ways rarely pay for themselves. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit, or one the builder will not touch any more, it often does. Send the nameplate and a description of the fault and we will give you a straight answer.
Only by prior technical arrangement. We have no staff and no partner in Qatar, so a visit has to be planned: the machine, the spindle type and the symptoms are discussed first, so that the right tools, instruments and likely parts travel with the technician. Alignment checks and measurements on site are realistic; a full rebuild is not.
Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Air transit and customs clearance in both directions come on top and are handled by your forwarder.
Send us the spindle details
Tell us the machine model, the spindle type and what the machine is doing wrong. We come back with an initial assessment and a written quote before any work begins.
