CNC spindle repair for the Czech Republic

Our workshop is in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn, an independent one-man business run by Paul Kloss, and it is the only place we repair anything. There is no branch and no staff in the Czech Republic. From Prague, Brno or Plzen the road distance is short, so a spindle can be on the bench quickly.

Getting the spindle here

A short road leg to the Rhineland

There is no customs procedure between the Czech Republic and Germany, and no export paperwork beyond the consignment note. The distance is modest, so a pallet leaving Bohemia or Moravia is often with us within a day or two on a normal groupage service, though the timing belongs to your forwarder. That short leg is the reason a Czech spindle is usually worth sending rather than exchanging. On-site work is possible, but only by prior technical arrangement, never as a same-week call-out.

The market

A machine tool country

The Czech Republic still builds machine tools, and has done for a long time: horizontal boring machines, large milling machines, lathes and grinders from works around Plzen, Brno, Kurim and Prague. On top of that sits a dense layer of automotive tier suppliers feeding the assembly plants at Mlada Boleslav, Kolin and Nosovice. So the spindles we see from Czech customers range from small high-speed milling spindles in mould shops to heavy geared and belt-driven units out of older machines, where bearings, seals and the drawbar mechanism have simply run their course.

Questions

Czech Republic spindle repair — frequently asked

Inspection normally begins within a day or two of arrival. The repair itself typically takes five to ten working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown shows. That is an estimate rather than a committed date. If you need a fixed date, ask for it and it counts only once we confirm it in writing.

No. Both countries are in the EU customs union, so the spindle moves as an ordinary internal consignment. You need the transport documents and your own commercial paperwork, nothing more. This is one reason the Czech Republic is among the easier markets to send from: the freight leg is short and the administration around it is light.

Only by prior technical arrangement. We have no engineers based in the Czech Republic, so a visit means one person travelling from Germany with instruments and parts chosen in advance for that specific fault. For anything involving bearing replacement, balancing or taper grinding the work has to happen in the workshop in any case.
