CNC spindle repair for Michigan shops
Our workshop is in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany, and that is where every spindle is repaired. Nothing of ours sits in Michigan. Most shops in the state have a rebuilder within a day's drive, so the honest starting point is whether a transatlantic crate is justified at all.
The market
Detroit tier suppliers and die shops
Michigan machining is built around the vehicle plants: tier one and tier two suppliers across Metro Detroit, transmission and powertrain work near Warren and Livonia, and the die and mould trade running from Sterling Heights up through Grand Rapids and Holland. Most of that sits on machines whose spindles are well supported close to home. Where we get called is the other end of the range, an imported European machining centre, a discontinued high-speed head, a grinding spindle from a Swiss or German machine that nobody in the state wants to touch.
Getting the spindle here
When a crate to Germany is worth it
For a common spindle that can be exchanged locally, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself, and we will say so rather than take the job. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit it often does. The route is air cargo from Detroit to Frankfurt or Cologne, timed by your forwarder rather than by us. Customs formalities apply in both directions; a temporary export with re-import is normally the right procedure and your forwarder handles it.

Questions
Michigan spindle repair — frequently asked
Usually you should not. The state is well served for common spindles, and freight both ways is dead time and cost on top of the repair itself. The jobs that reach us are different: imported machines whose spindles are discontinued, unusual high-speed or grinding units, or a repair that has already been attempted twice without success.
Only by prior technical arrangement. We have no staff in the United States, so any visit is planned well in advance with the right instruments and the likely parts packed for it. That can be sensible for diagnosis, alignment or removal on a difficult machine. A rebuild still means the spindle travels to the bench in Germany.
Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Transatlantic transit each way is on top of that, and it is the forwarder's business rather than ours.

Tell us the machine model, the spindle type and what the machine is doing wrong. We come back with an initial assessment and a written quote before any work begins.
