Medical Alley
CNC spindle repair for Minnesota
We are an independent spindle workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. Everything is repaired on that one bench. Nothing of ours sits in Minnesota: no depot, no agent, no staff. A spindle from the Twin Cities or outstate travels by air cargo, and is quoted in writing after teardown.
Getting the spindle here
A long way inland, then across
Minneapolis-Saint Paul has direct freight capacity to Europe, so the outbound leg is straightforward; from Frankfurt or Cologne it is a short road run to us. Timing belongs to your forwarder and sits on top of any workshop estimate. Customs formalities apply going out and coming back, and a temporary export with re-import after repair is usually the correct procedure. Attendance at your plant is possible only by prior technical arrangement.
The market
Medical device work and the shops that feed it
Minnesota is a small-part, tight-tolerance state. The medical device cluster around the Twin Cities and Rochester keeps a large base of precision job shops busy with Swiss-type turning, micro-milling and titanium work. Around that sit agricultural and outdoor equipment builders, food and packaging machinery, and heavy fabrication up towards Duluth. The spindles that reach us reflect it: high-speed milling and grinding units, small-diameter cartridges from Swiss lathes, and the occasional discontinued European head off a machine bought used.

Questions
Minnesota spindle repair — frequently asked
Sometimes. Small high-speed and Swiss-lathe cartridges are light, so freight is not the obstacle; the question is whether the unit can simply be exchanged locally. If it can, it usually should be. If it is discontinued, unusually accurate, or has already come back wrong from a rebuild, the trip is often justified.
No. We are independent and hold no authorisation from any machine or spindle builder, and we do not describe parts as original equipment. What we do is measure, report and rebuild to the tolerances the unit needs. If that is not acceptable for a machine still under builder warranty, say so early.
Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Freight in each direction is extra time again, controlled by your forwarder rather than by us.
