CNC spindle repair for Ohio
The bench is in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. We have no premises and no people in Ohio, so a spindle from Cleveland, Dayton or Cincinnati travels as air cargo and comes back the same way. For plenty of jobs that is not worth doing, and we will tell you when.

The transatlantic leg and the paperwork
Air cargo from Cleveland, Columbus or Cincinnati through a hub to Frankfurt is the usual route. The timing is the forwarder's, not ours, and it sits on top of any workshop estimate. Customs formalities apply on export and again on re-entry; your forwarder handles them, and a temporary export with re-import on return is normally the right procedure. On-site attendance in Ohio is possible only by prior technical arrangement, planned well ahead.

Aerospace at Dayton, heavy machining further north
Ohio machining spreads wider than a single industry. There is aerospace and engine work around Dayton and Cincinnati, automotive supply through Toledo, Lima and the Columbus corridor, and heavy machining and fabrication in the north-east around Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown. Large boring and milling spindles off older heavy machines turn up more often here than in most markets, alongside high-speed heads from aerospace profiling. Discontinued European spindles on machines bought second-hand are the ones where a crate to Germany begins to make commercial sense.

Often not. For a common spindle with parts and rebuilders available in the Midwest, shipping to Germany and back rarely pays for itself. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit, a European grinding spindle or an obsolete boring head, it frequently does. Describe the machine and the fault, and we will give you a straight view before anything is crated.
It is booked in, stripped and measured, and the findings are written up. A written quotation is issued before any repair work starts, and nothing proceeds until you accept it. If the teardown shows the unit is not economic to rebuild, you get that in writing too, with the reasons and the measurements set out.
Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. It is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Freight in both directions is separate from that and is controlled by your forwarder, not by us.
