CNC spindle repair for Texas
All repair work is done in one workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. We hold nothing in Texas, no depot and no people. A spindle leaves Houston or Dallas by air, or, if it is heavy enough to justify the wait, by sea out of the Gulf. Both routes take real time, and neither is quick.
The market
Oilfield work and the defence corridor
Texas machining is dominated by energy. Oilfield tool and completion shops around Houston, Midland and Odessa turn hard alloys on heavy lathes and boring machines, and their spindles usually arrive worn out rather than crashed. Around Fort Worth, Dallas and Arlington the work shifts to aerospace and defence structures, with high-speed heads and long-reach profiling spindles. San Antonio adds engine and general subcontract machining, and Austin adds semiconductor equipment parts. Big, hard-used units and delicate high-speed ones therefore come out of the same state, and they call for quite different judgements about shipping.
Getting the spindle here
Air from Dallas, sea out of the Gulf
Houston gives Texas something most states lack: a container port, which makes sea freight realistic for a heavy motorised head when weeks of transit are acceptable. Otherwise it is air cargo from Dallas or Houston to Frankfurt. Customs formalities apply in both directions and are handled by your forwarder, with a temporary export and re-import after repair normally the right procedure. If a line is down and the plant is losing money by the hour, do not ship the spindle to Germany. That is not what this route is for.

Questions
Texas spindle repair — frequently asked
Probably not quickly enough. Bench time is typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals, and that is an estimate rather than a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Transatlantic freight each way is extra and belongs to your forwarder. For a breakdown, source locally.
Planned work, spare-unit rebuilds and orphans. A discontinued oilfield boring spindle, an imported grinder head, a high-speed aerospace spindle with no parts route in the States. For a common spindle that can be exchanged locally, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself, and we will say so rather than take the job for the sake of it.
Only by prior technical arrangement, agreed well in advance. We have nobody in the United States, so a visit means instruments and the likely parts are packed for that specific machine and travel with the technician. It can make sense for diagnosis, alignment or a difficult removal on a large boring machine. The rebuild itself is still done in Germany.
