Medical Alley
CNC spindle repair for Minnesota
We are an independent spindle workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. Everything is repaired on that one bench. International jobs are handled through direct technical coordination, reliable freight planning and, where appropriate, a scheduled visit to the machine. A spindle from the Twin Cities or outstate travels by air cargo, and is quoted in writing after teardown.
Getting the spindle here
A long way inland, then across
Minneapolis-Saint Paul has direct freight capacity to Europe, so the outbound leg is straightforward; from Frankfurt or Cologne it is a short road run to us. Timing belongs to your forwarder and sits on top of any workshop estimate. Customs formalities apply going out and coming back, and a temporary export with re-import after repair is usually the correct procedure. Attendance at your plant is possible only by prior technical arrangement.
The market
Medical device work and the shops that feed it
Minnesota is a small-part, tight-tolerance state. The medical device cluster around the Twin Cities and Rochester keeps a large base of precision job shops busy with Swiss-type turning, micro-milling and titanium work. Around that sit agricultural and outdoor equipment builders, food and packaging machinery, and heavy fabrication up towards Duluth. The spindles that reach us reflect it: high-speed milling and grinding units, small-diameter cartridges from Swiss lathes, and the occasional discontinued European head off a machine bought used.
Scope
Spindle work we carry out for customers in Minnesota
Every operation below is done in our own workshop in Germany. Follow a link for what it involves and what we need from you. For medical work in the Twin Cities and Rochester, bearing replacement and taper and runout correction on small Swiss-lathe and micro-milling cartridges are the core of it, since a few microns of runout decide whether the part passes. Dynamic balancing follows any bearing work at those speeds. From packaging, agricultural and outdoor equipment builders the typical request is different: motor rewinding or housing repair on an older motorised head whose builder no longer supplies parts.
Questions
Minnesota spindle repair — frequently asked
Sometimes. Small high-speed and Swiss-lathe cartridges are light, so freight is not the obstacle; the question is whether the unit can simply be exchanged locally. If it can, it usually should be. If it is discontinued, unusually accurate, or has already come back wrong from a rebuild, the trip is often justified.
No. We are independent and hold no authorisation from any machine or spindle builder, and we do not describe parts as original equipment. What we do is measure, report and rebuild to the tolerances the unit needs. If that is not acceptable for a machine still under builder warranty, say so early.
Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Freight in each direction is extra time again, controlled by your forwarder rather than by us.
Machine brand
Machine brands we see from Minnesota
We are independent and not tied to any builder. These are the makes whose spindles come across the bench most often. Brother and Haas machines are common in the Minnesota job shops, and their spindles are usually exchanged locally. More often we see Makino and Hermle high-speed heads from micro-milling and five-axis medical work, and Toyoda grinding spindles used on precision instruments. Doosan and Mazak units with heavier spindles tend to come from the agricultural and equipment builders outstate, and older DMG Mori heads from machines bought used.
Coverage
Towns and cities we hear from in Minnesota
Each enquiry is coordinated directly from the first fault description through logistics, repair and the optional return visit for installation or commissioning. From these towns and cities we regularly receive enquiries. Minneapolis and Saint Paul sit around MSP airport, the natural departure point for a crate. Rochester, Owatonna, Mankato and Winona form a southern band linked by US-14, with Owatonna also on I-35 and Winona on the Mississippi in the south-east. St. Cloud lies up I-94 to the north-west, and Duluth at the head of Lake Superior, about two and a half hours north on I-35.
