CNC spindle repair for Texas

All repair work is done in one workshop in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany. Technical support can be arranged at the machine when required, with tooling, measuring equipment and likely parts prepared for the reported fault. A spindle leaves Houston or Dallas by air, or, if it is heavy enough to justify the wait, by sea out of the Gulf. Both routes take real time, and neither is quick.

The market

Oilfield work and the defence corridor

Texas machining is dominated by energy. Oilfield tool and completion shops around Houston, Midland and Odessa turn hard alloys on heavy lathes and boring machines, and their spindles usually arrive worn out rather than crashed. Around Fort Worth, Dallas and Arlington the work shifts to aerospace and defence structures, with high-speed heads and long-reach profiling spindles. San Antonio adds engine and general subcontract machining, and Austin adds semiconductor equipment parts. Big, hard-used units and delicate high-speed ones therefore come out of the same state, and they call for quite different judgements about shipping.

Machine brands we see from Texas

We are independent and not tied to any builder. These are the makes whose spindles come across the bench most often. Okuma, Mazak and Doosan lathes are common in the oilfield and completion shops, and their spindles reach us mainly as discontinued or heavily worn units. Makino, Hermle and DMG Mori heads tend to come from aerospace and defence structures work around Dallas and Fort Worth. Mitsubishi and Brother machines appear in the smaller subcontract shops around San Antonio and Austin, with Fanuc and Siemens controls across almost all of them.

Getting the spindle here

Air from Dallas, sea out of the Gulf

Houston gives Texas something most states lack: a container port, which makes sea freight realistic for a heavy motorised head when weeks of transit are acceptable. Otherwise it is air cargo from Dallas or Houston to Frankfurt. Customs formalities apply in both directions and are handled by your forwarder, with a temporary export and re-import after repair normally the right procedure. If a line is down and the plant is losing money by the hour, do not ship the spindle to Germany. That is not what this route is for.

Scope

Spindle work we carry out for customers in Texas

Every operation below is done in our own workshop in Germany. Follow a link for what it involves and what we need from you. Oilfield spindles from heavy lathes and boring machines usually arrive worn through rather than damaged by a crash, so housing repair and regrinding and bearing replacement dominate those jobs. High-speed profiling heads from the Fort Worth and Dallas aerospace work depend more on dynamic balancing and encoder and sensor repair. Since heavy units may travel by sea, a full description of the fault and the machine is worth sending before the crate is closed, so the bench work can start as soon as it arrives.

Coverage

Towns and cities we hear from in Texas

We coordinate collection, technical assessment and return transport directly, with planned on-site support available for diagnosis, removal or commissioning. From these towns and cities we regularly receive enquiries. Houston has the Gulf container port for heavy units and a cargo airport, and it is the centre of the oilfield tool trade. Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington form the Metroplex aerospace and defence cluster around DFW airport, while San Antonio and Austin sit along I-35 to the south. Midland and Odessa lie far west in the Permian Basin on I-20, so their crates usually travel some distance by road before leaving the state.

Questions

Texas spindle repair — frequently asked

Probably not quickly enough. Bench time is typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals, and that is an estimate rather than a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Transatlantic freight each way is extra and belongs to your forwarder. For a breakdown, source locally.

Planned work, spare-unit rebuilds and orphans. A discontinued oilfield boring spindle, an imported grinder head, a high-speed aerospace spindle with no parts route in the States. For a common spindle that can be exchanged locally, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself, and we will say so rather than take the job for the sake of it.

On-site support in the United States can be arranged by prior technical agreement, with instruments and likely parts prepared for that specific machine. It can make sense for diagnosis, alignment or a difficult removal on a large boring machine. The rebuild itself is still done in Germany.
