Pacific Northwest

CNC spindle repair for Washington State

We coordinate collection, technical assessment and return transport directly, with planned on-site support available for diagnosis, removal or commissioning. On-site assistance can be scheduled in advance, with instruments, tooling and likely parts selected for the reported fault. A spindle from Everett, Kent or Spokane comes to us as air cargo, and is stripped, measured and quoted in writing first.

The market

Large five-axis work around Puget Sound

Washington machining is dominated by aerospace. The airframe plants at Everett and Renton pull a dense supplier base through Kent, Auburn and Arlington, doing structural aluminium, titanium fittings and composite trim. Spokane carries a second aerospace cluster of its own, and there is marine and shipyard engineering on the Sound. Much of the work runs on large five-axis profilers and gantry mills, so the spindles are often heavy milling heads with long tapers, alongside high-speed router cartridges from composite and trim work.

Scope

Spindle work we carry out for customers in Washington

Every operation below is done in our own workshop in Germany. Follow a link for what it involves and what we need from you. For the large milling heads on five-axis profilers and gantry mills, taper and runout correction and housing repair and regrinding are usually the main issues, as long tapers and heavy tool loads wear the interfaces. High-speed router cartridges from composite and trim work need bearing replacement and dynamic balancing more often. Given the distance and the weight, a planned on-site visit for diagnosis or removal can make sense on a gantry before anything is crated.

Getting the spindle here

The wrong coast for a heavy crate

Seattle sits about as far from the Rhineland as any point in the lower forty-eight, and a heavy milling head is expensive to fly. Sea freight is cheaper but slow, and the wait is rarely acceptable when a gantry is down. Customs formalities apply on export and on re-entry, handled by your forwarder, with a temporary export and re-import normally the right procedure. On-site attendance is possible only by prior technical arrangement.

Coverage

Towns and cities we hear from in Washington

Each enquiry is coordinated directly from the first fault description through logistics, repair and the optional return visit for installation or commissioning. From these towns and cities we regularly receive enquiries. Everett and Arlington lie north of Seattle on I-5, while Renton, Kent and Auburn form the supplier corridor south of the city, with Tacoma further down toward the port. Seattle and Tacoma both have container terminals, and Seattle-Tacoma airport handles most outbound air cargo. Spokane in the east of the state connects to the coast by I-90, so its crates usually take a longer road leg first.

Questions

Washington spindle repair — frequently asked

Often it is not. For a common spindle with rebuilders on the West Coast, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself, and weight makes that worse. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit, an obsolete European head or a grinding spindle nobody will touch, it often does. Ask before crating.

Not in Washington, unless it is arranged in advance. International jobs are handled through direct technical coordination, reliable freight planning and, where appropriate, a scheduled visit to the machine. In most cases your own maintenance team pulls the unit, and we tell you beforehand how it should be blocked and crated.

Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Transit from the Pacific Northwest is on top of that and belongs to your forwarder, not to us.

Machine brand

Machine brands we see from Washington

We are independent and not tied to any builder. These are the makes whose spindles come across the bench most often. DMG Mori, Makino and Hermle spindles are typical for aerospace five-axis machining in the Puget Sound supplier base, and imported European heads on gantry machines are a common reason to ship. Siemens and Heidenhain appear mainly on the drive and encoder side of these large machines. Haas and Hurco units in the smaller job shops around Kent and Auburn are normally better repaired on the West Coast.
