CNC spindle repair for Washington State
The bench is in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany, and that is the only place we repair spindles. We have no premises, no parts and no people in Washington. A spindle from Everett, Kent or Spokane comes to us as air cargo, and is stripped, measured and quoted in writing first.
The market
Large five-axis work around Puget Sound
Washington machining is dominated by aerospace. The airframe plants at Everett and Renton pull a dense supplier base through Kent, Auburn and Arlington, doing structural aluminium, titanium fittings and composite trim. Spokane carries a second aerospace cluster of its own, and there is marine and shipyard engineering on the Sound. Much of the work runs on large five-axis profilers and gantry mills, so the spindles are often heavy milling heads with long tapers, alongside high-speed router cartridges from composite and trim work.

Getting the spindle here
The wrong coast for a heavy crate
Seattle sits about as far from the Rhineland as any point in the lower forty-eight, and a heavy milling head is expensive to fly. Sea freight is cheaper but slow, and the wait is rarely acceptable when a gantry is down. Customs formalities apply on export and on re-entry, handled by your forwarder, with a temporary export and re-import normally the right procedure. On-site attendance is possible only by prior technical arrangement.

Questions
Washington spindle repair — frequently asked
Often it is not. For a common spindle with rebuilders on the West Coast, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself, and weight makes that worse. For a rare, high-value or discontinued unit, an obsolete European head or a grinding spindle nobody will touch, it often does. Ask before crating.
Not in Washington, unless it is arranged in advance. We have no staff there, so any attendance is planned well ahead with the right instruments and likely parts packed for that machine. In most cases your own maintenance team pulls the unit, and we tell you beforehand how it should be blocked and crated.
Typically 5 to 10 working days from arrival, depending on parts availability and what the teardown reveals. That is an estimate, not a committed date; a binding date is only valid if we confirm it in writing. Transit from the Pacific Northwest is on top of that and belongs to your forwarder, not to us.
