CNC spindle repair for Wisconsin
The workshop is in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn in Germany, and it is the only place we repair anything. There is no branch and no staff in Wisconsin. Spindles from this state tend to be large, and that changes the arithmetic: here it is often the crate rather than the repair that decides whether the job happens.
Getting the spindle here
Heavy crates change the sums
A large motorised head on a pallet is expensive to fly and slow to sail. From Milwaukee or Green Bay it will usually road-freight to Chicago first, then either go by air to Frankfurt or by sea through a container port with weeks added. Neither timing is ours to control. Customs formalities apply in both directions and your forwarder deals with them; a temporary export with re-import after repair is normally the right procedure. For anything heavy, talk to us before you book the freight rather than after.
The market
Heavy plant, engines and the paper mills
Wisconsin builds heavy things. Construction and mining equipment around Milwaukee and Waukesha, engines and generating sets at Racine and Kenosha, specialist vehicles at Oshkosh, and paper machinery through the Fox River valley from Appleton up to Green Bay. Behind all of that sits a deep precision subcontract trade in the smaller towns. The spindles are correspondingly big: horizontal boring mill quills, heavy milling heads, roll grinder spindles, and cartridge units off machines that have stood in the same bay for thirty years and whose builder no longer exists to be asked about them.

Questions
Wisconsin spindle repair — frequently asked
Frequently not. For a common spindle that can be exchanged or rebuilt locally, freight to Germany and back rarely pays for itself, and on a heavy unit that is doubly true. Where it does make sense is a discontinued boring or grinding spindle on a machine you intend to keep running for another decade, with no realistic source of a replacement.
On-site work in Wisconsin is possible only by prior technical arrangement, and it has to be planned well ahead so that the instruments and the likely parts travel with the technician. It suits diagnosis, alignment checks or an awkward removal on a large machine where the spindle will not come out easily. A rebuild still means the unit comes to the bench in Germany.
A written quotation, issued after the unit has been stripped and measured. Nothing here is free and nothing is assumed. If the measurements show that a rebuild is not economic, you get that in writing with the reasons and the figures, and the spindle goes back as it is. Work begins only once you have accepted the quotation.
