Downtime

Exchange and loaner spindles

While a spindle is being repaired, the machine stands still. In individual cases we can bridge that time with a rebuilt exchange unit or a loaner spindle. This only works where a suitable spindle is on hand and the arrangement has been agreed in advance, so please ask us before you plan around it.

Scope

Options to shorten downtime

Which option makes sense depends on the spindle type, how quickly the machine has to run again and whether a suitable unit is available. We check this with you before your spindle is removed.

Exchange spindle

You receive a rebuilt unit of the same type and send your spindle in. Your unit is rebuilt and goes into our stock. Possible only where an identical, rebuilt spindle is available.

Loaner spindle

A spindle is lent for the duration of the repair and returned once your own unit is back. The condition of the loaner is documented on dispatch and return.

Express repair

If no exchange unit exists, the repair of your own spindle can be prioritised. Whether that is possible depends on parts and the current workload.

Rebuilding your spare

If you keep a spare spindle on the shelf, we can rebuild it now, so it is ready to fit the next time the running spindle fails.

Process

How an exchange is arranged

  1. 1

    Identify the spindle

Send us photos of the nameplate and the tool interface. We check type, version and whether a suitable unit is available.

  2. 2

    Agree the terms

Before anything is shipped, we agree in writing: exchange or loan, period, deposit if applicable, and the condition your spindle has to be in.

  3. 3

    Swap

The replacement unit is shipped and fitted, by your team or by us on site. Your spindle comes to our workshop.

  4. 4

    Repair and return

Your spindle is inspected and rebuilt. With a loan, the loaner comes back once your spindle has been refitted.

Checklist

What we need to check availability

An exchange unit has to match the original exactly: type, version, tool interface and clamping. The nameplate photo and the machine data let us check this before the spindle is removed. Knowing how long the machine can be down helps us decide whether an exchange or a fast repair is the better option.

  • Nameplate photo with type and serial number
  • Machine make, model and year
  • Tool interface and drawbar or clamping version
  • How long the machine can be out of production

When it is needed

When an exchange unit makes sense

An exchange or loaner unit is not available for every spindle, but where one is, it can shorten downtime considerably. It makes most sense when no spare is in stock, when the repair is expected to take longer or when several machines use the same spindle. These are the typical cases.

No spare on hand

The machine has no spare spindle and every day of downtime costs more than the extra effort of an exchange.

Long repair expected

The teardown is likely to reveal shaft or housing work, or parts with long delivery times.

Several machines with the same spindle

With identical machines, one rebuilt unit can serve as a rotating spare for the whole group.

Questions

Exchange and loaner spindles — frequently asked

No. Exchange or loaner units exist only for some spindle types and only where a suitable unit is on hand. We tell you honestly before removal whether an option is available.

With an exchange, your spindle is rebuilt and goes into stock. With a loan, it is repaired and returned to you, and the loaner comes back to us.

Yes. Like every rebuilt spindle, it is balanced and run in, and it is shipped with a test report showing the measured values.

Then we discuss the next steps: for example, keeping the exchange unit permanently or looking for another solution. Nothing is decided without your agreement.

Ask about an exchange or loaner spindle

Send us the nameplate details and tell us how long the machine can be down. We check what is available and reply with the options before you remove the spindle.
