Heidenhain Encoders and Sensors

Heidenhain specialises in the components that tell a spindle and the machine axes where they are: encoders, linear scales, touch probes and TNC controls. These sensors are fitted in spindle and servo motors, rotary tables and machine axes from many manufacturers. We source Heidenhain encoders and sensors on the German market and test their signals in our workshop.

Which Heidenhain encoders machines use

Spindles most often use ERM modular magnetic encoders: a toothed drum on the shaft and a scanning head without its own bearings. Spindle and axis motors use encoders with integral bearing: incremental ERN and absolute ECN/EQN with EnDat interface or 1 Vpp signal.

Axes and rotary tables use LS incremental and LC absolute linear scales and RCN angle encoders, while TS and TT probes measure workpieces and tools. These systems work on machines with TNC 640, TNC 620, iTNC 530 and earlier TNC 426/430 controls, as well as with other controls.

How to order

How to order a Heidenhain encoder

Every Heidenhain product carries an ID number on its label, and that number defines resolution, interface and mechanical version.

  1. 1

    ID number and serial number

Photograph the encoder label: type designation, ID number and serial number. For ERM, the head label and the drum marking.

  2. 2

    Mounting position

Tell us where the sensor sits (spindle, motor, axis or table) and which control the machine has. A photo of the alarm on screen helps.

  3. 3

    Identification and quote

We offer a new original or a reconditioned sensor; availability and delivery time are confirmed after your enquiry.

  4. 4

    Signal test and fitting

We test the signals in our workshop. We fit an ERM head and set the gap, and fit a motor encoder as part of the motor repair.

Why us

Why order Heidenhain encoders from us

Sourced in Germany

Heidenhain is a German maker, and we source its sensors on the brand’s home market.

Signal test

Signal amplitude and shape are checked before dispatch, so the sensor works from the first start.

Fitting and setup

We fit the ERM head on the spindle or the encoder on the motor and check orientation.

Safe shipping

Sensors are packed with shock protection and shipped across Europe and worldwide.

FAQ

Heidenhain encoders: frequently asked questions

The type designation (for example ERN or ECN with a number) describes the family, while the ID number defines the exact version: line count, interface, shaft and cable. Order by the ID number.

The control expects a specific signal type, so the replacement is an identical sensor or one with a compatible interface. We select the options together with you.

The cause is often contamination, the gap or the cable. We help you locate the fault and supply exactly the part that is needed.

Yes, probes for workpiece and tool measurement, as well as styli and cables for them.

Request

Send us the ID number of your Heidenhain sensor

A photo of the label and a note on where the sensor is mounted are all we need. We reply with options and ship across Europe and worldwide.
