Spindle encoders and sensors for CNC machines

We supply spindle encoders, magnetic ring sensors, rotary encoders, drawbar position sensors, temperature sensors, cables and connectors to order. Identification is based on the type and ID number on the label, the spindle model or photos. We source the parts on the European market, check them in our workshop, fit them and set up the signal.

Range

Which encoders and sensors we supply

Spindle sensors are the part of the unit most sensitive to faults: spindle orientation, rigid tapping, tool clamp monitoring and motor overheat protection all depend on them. We therefore treat every request as a system: sensor, cable, connector and drive parameters.

Magnetic ring encoders

Heidenhain ERM modular magnetic encoders and Lenord+Bauer GEL sensors (MiniCoder) with toothed or magnetic rings, for electrospindles and motor spindles.

Rotary encoders ERN, ECN, ROD

Heidenhain incremental ERN and ROD and absolute ECN encoders for spindles and motors, with hollow shaft or with their own bearing and coupling.

Fanuc and other spindle sensors

Built-in sensors of spindle motors, position sensors for orientation and the matching toothed rings.

Clamp and unclamp sensors

Inductive and analogue drawbar position sensors for tool clamped, unclamped and no tool, as well as piston position sensors.

Temperature sensors

KTY84, PT100 and PTC thermistors in the motor windings and at the bearings, for heat monitoring and spindle protection.

Cables and connectors

Encoder and sensor cables, M12 and M23 connectors, glands and seals, for a stable signal in a coolant environment.

We offer new sensors in original or equivalent quality and, where it makes sense, rebuilt units. If the encoder can be returned to service, we compare replacement with spindle encoder repair in our workshop.

Ordering

How to order an encoder or sensor

The best source of data is the label on the sensor housing with type and ID number. For magnetic systems the ring (number of teeth or poles), the air gap and the output signal type also matter.

  1. 1

    Label and unit photos

Send photos of the sensor label, the mounting position and the connector, the spindle and control model, and the alarm text if there is one.

  2. 2

    Matching by signal

We check signal type, line count, supply, cable and mounting so that the new sensor works with your drive without modification.

  3. 3

    Quote

We offer the specified sensor and equivalent options, with cable or ring where these should be replaced too; availability and delivery time are confirmed with the quote.

  4. 4

    Fitting and set-up

We fit the sensor, set the air gap, check the signal with an oscilloscope and set up spindle orientation on the machine or in the workshop.

Why us

Why order spindle sensors through us

European sourcing

Encoders, magnetic sensors and components from the European market, identified by a workshop that works with them every day.

Checked before shipping

Before dispatch we check the sensor and compare its designation with your request.

Signal set-up

We set air gap and signal amplitude and check spindle orientation and rigid tapping.

Fast courier shipping

Compact sensors and cables travel quickly by courier to any address in Europe and worldwide.

Simple paperwork

Within the EU no customs formalities; outside the EU we help with the export documents.

One order

The encoder replacement can be combined with a spindle repair in one order and one quote.

After power failures and emergency stops at speed, encoder faults are one of the most common reasons for a call. Here are the pages on repair and related parts.

Questions

Questions about encoders and sensors

First check the cable, connector, air gap and ring cleanliness; some alarms clear once these are restored. We help with the diagnosis, and if the sensor itself needs replacing we offer the options.

A magnetic ring encoder (ERM, GEL) consists of a ring on the shaft and a scanning head and is built directly into the spindle. A rotary encoder (ERN, ECN, ROD) is a separate device with its own shaft, mounted to the motor or spindle by a coupling or hollow shaft.

Yes, if signal, line count, supply and mounting match. We identify equivalent items and agree any differences with you before ordering.

Yes: inductive and analogue drawbar position sensors, and if needed together with drawbar, disc springs and collets. The clamped and unclamped switching points are set during fitting.

Most often a KTY84, PT100 or PTC thermistor. The type shows in the documentation, the drive parameters or a resistance measurement; we help identify it and offer a suitable replacement.
